The latex slide test in rheumatic disorders.

چکیده
The latex slide test (L.S.T.) has been shown to be simple to perform and easy to read. It gives results comparable with the more complicated serological procedures used in the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. In 603 cases the L.S.T. and differential agglutination test gave a high degree of correlation. There were only four discrepancies between the two tests. The L.S.T. is the more practicable for routine laboratory use.The L.S.T. has been correlated with the duration, activity, and extent of rheumatoid arthritis, and also with the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, haemoglobin level, and radiographic appearances. The various serological tests are tabulated.

Comparative study of the haemagglutination test and a simple latex-fixation test for the detection of the rheumatoid factor.
The exact nature of the "rheumatoid factor" is unknown, but it appears to be an antibody-like substance composed of a gamma globulin complex of high molecular weight. Two groups of tests have been used to detect it: the haemagglutination test and the latex-fixation or Bentonite flocculation test. In the first group the indicator consists of sheep red cells with rabbit anti-sheep haemolysin as t...
متن کاملUse of slide latex agglutination test for rapid diagnosis of vaginal candidosis.
A new slide latex agglutination test was compared with microscopy and culture for diagnosing vaginal candidosis in 367 women attending a genitourinary medicine clinic. Vaginal candidosis occurred in 10% of the patients, and 7% had commensal carriage of Candida spp. The slide latex agglutination test was superior to microscopy in immediate diagnosis and was rapid and simple to perform. Of the pa...
متن کاملCoagulase production by strains of Staphylococcus aureus of differing resistance characters: a comparison of two traditional methods with a latex agglutination system detecting both clumping factor and protein A.
Five groups of strains of Staphylococcus aureus (54 in total) were tested by slide and tube coagulase methods with rabbit and human plasma, and the results were compared with a latex test for both clumping factor and Protein A (Staphaurex, Wellcome Foundation). The five groups comprised: epidemic methicillin resistant S aureus (group 1); other methicillin resistant S aureus (group 2); other res...
متن کاملA comparison of tests for thyroglobulin antibody.
A comparison is made of tests for thyroglobulin antibody, using gel diffusion, electroprecipitin, bentonite flocculation, tanned red cell agglutination, and latex slide agglutination techniques on sera from cases of Hashimoto's disease and other thyroid disorders. Any increase in gamma globulin was also noted from the serum electrophoretic pattern. The gel diffusion and electroprecipitin tests ...
متن کاملA simple latex slide test for rheumatoid arthritis using the gamma globulin in the patient's serum.
A latex slide test is described which is suitable for handling large numbers of specimens. The buffered latex suspension used is easily prepared from stable stock solutions at relatively low cost. It is not necessary to add Cohn fraction II (gamma globulin) to the latex reagent. A comparison has been made with the sheep cell agglutination (Rose-Waaler) test in 508 cases and a 96% overall agreem...
